Everything above makes the convenience of the WiiM integrations less appealing than simply casting from the more polished dedicated apps. The app, on the other hand, needs some work. But, unless you need a Roon ready device today or you're really into the look of large metal audio gear, I can't imagine too many use cases for a $1000 NAD or Cambridge streamer over the WiiM Pro. This is my first streamer, so I can't really compare it to anything else. It would be nice if there was a way to start that chain without playing a song and missing the beginning while everything warms up. The 12v trigger goes from my WiiM Pro, to my amp and subwoofer. A trigger button on the app's homescreen would be cool. A three way switch in settings to decide if we want to use it for network status, standby status, or just always off. An option to choose standby light function. Looks like this has been discussed extensively elsewhere on the forum, but +1 for better Plex integration. Deezer results seem to be more consistent than Amazon Music. Have to search, open keyboard, then search again to get most/all results to show. Search occassionally fails to communicate with streaming services, returning incomplete or no results. Sometimes previous search text is still in the box and I have to clear it before the keyboard will appear. I have to tap the box multiple times to get the keyboard to popup (this seems to be part of a larger responsiveness issue). This is especially annoying when I'm using Home Music Share to listen to music from my Plex server as the Artist folder is 5 folders deep. The app becomes unresponsive and needs to be closed and restarted. I'll start some music, lock my phone or switch to a different app, and when I return to the WiiM app there's a spinning loading wheel in the middle of the screen that never loads. The app has issues recovering from standby. The on screen buttons work, but I find myself closing the app more often than I remember to tap the back button. It works as intended in some menus and returns to the previous, but most of the time it brings up a prompt to exit the app. The back gesture is extremely inconsistent. With lots of devices and music services, I could see a single settings menu getting cluttered, but there has to be a better implementation/explanation for settings being buried in three separate menus. Or to change per-service settings, go to Browse and select the integration under "Music services". To access actual settings, you have to go to Device and tap the settings cog to bring up per-device settings. Settings contains no settings, just the app version and some useful links. For reference, I'm using version 2.16 of the WiiM Home app on a Pixel 7 running Android 13 with Deezer, Amazon Music, and a Plex server connected. And I'd like to see some mention on the website/Amazon listing that the 12V trigger is 2.5mm. Looks clean, but some heavy duty connectors don't fit. I'm not a fan of the recessed connections. It looks nice next to the rest of my gear and I don't have any issues with the plastic shell at this price point. Haven't had any issues with WIFI to coax or toslink to coax digital passthrough to my DAC. As the Flex is running as my DAC, I can't comment on the Pro's onboard DAC, but from what I've read it's fine. I'm running my TV into the WiiM Pro and then coax out to a miniDSP Flex running as a sort of separates AV processor. I've been using the WiiM Pro and its app for about a month now and I wanted to share some thoughts.

These levels may be short, but they are well-designed, offering unique challenges across the games 70 plus levels. Boss levels operate on the same idea, but the difference here is that you can choose to ignore filling your soul meter in exchange for outright destroying the boss, which would let you see phases you’d normally be able to skip out on. Otherwise, the level will loop and with it comes extra difficulty in the form of different enemy attack patterns and positioning. Blasting away baddies is one thing, but you’ll need to keep an eye out on the ones that actually drop souls if you want to complete the level in the least amount of time possible. Each level is comprised of a short ‘loop’ where players must collect souls to fill up their soul meter to complete the challenge. Now the twist here is in NeverAwake’s level design and progression. You can dash, use your subweapon, and equip many accessories to aid you through Rem’s nightmares. In NeverAwake, players guide themselves through the game’s on-rails camera, blasting away whatever foes dare to cross you. Popular titles like The Binding of Isaac or Geometry Wars come to mind. The Arizona Geological Survey maintains an active catalogue of earthquake activity that includes events recorded by the Arizona Broadband Seismic Network. If selected, our planet will officially enter the Crawfordian Age of the Anthropocene.Arizona has earthquakes! Each year hundreds of unfelt and several felt earthquakes occur in Arizona (see the graphic to the right for felt 3+ magnitude earthquakes). While the International Commission on Stratigraphy announced the naming of the new epoch in July 2023, Crawford Lake is still in the process of getting approved as the site that marks the new epoch. The lake has two distinct layers of water that never intermix, causing falling sediments to settle in distinct layers at its bed over time. The best example has been found in the sediment of Crawford Lake in Ontario, Canada. The clearest identified marker of this geological time shift, and the chosen golden spike for the Anthropocene, is radioactive plutonium from nuclear testing in the 1950s. The Anthropocene is distinguished by a myriad of imprints on the Earth including the proliferation of plastic particles and a noticeable increase in carbon dioxide levels in sediments. But after millennia of human activity, this epoch is quickly making way for the Anthropocene. Over the last 11,700 years, we have been living in the Holocene epoch, a relatively stable period that enabled human civilization to flourish. These include epochs like the Early Devonian, which saw the dawn of the first early shell organisms 400 million years ago, and the three Jurassic epochs, which saw dinosaurs become the dominant terrestrial vertebrates. The Earth has gone through many epochs leading up to the modern Anthropocene. Earth’s Geological Timeline Leading Up to the Anthropocene Some boundaries are so distinct and so widespread in the geologic record that they are known as “golden spikes.” Golden spikes can be climatic, magnetic, biological, or isotopic (chemical). If we were to cut a mountain in half, we could notice layers representing these changing spans of time, marked by differences in chemical composition and accumulated sediment. Note: Subepochs (between epochs and ages) have also been ratified for use in 2022, but are not yet clearly defined. Hundreds of thousands of years to tens of millions of years Millions of years to tens of millions of years Several hundred million years to two billion years The time span of each varies, since they’re dependent on major events like new species introduction, as well as how they fit into their parent units. The Earth’s geological history is divided into many distinct units, from eons to ages. In this infographic we dig deep into the Earth’s geological timeline to reveal the planet’s shift from one epoch to another, and the specific events that separate them. And scientists have recently defined the next major epoch using this geological time scale-the Anthropocene. Layers of the planet’s crust carry evidence of pivotal moments that changed the face of the Earth, such as the ice age and asteroid hits. Over the course of Earth’s history, there have been dramatic shifts in the landscape, climate, and biodiversity of the planet. The Anthropocene: A New Epoch in the Earth’s History “One of the most important policies of the trademark law is, on the negative side, not to give anybody an exclusive right to exclude others from using the language in its ordinarily understood implications, preventing others from using the mark, as Pepsi-Cola is using ‘Rise’ in an energy that carries some of the same implications,” Judge Leval said. "It doesn’t to me really say much very much given the size of the U.S. Publicity, however, "is not about the adherent strength of the mark but only about acquired strength," Leval continued. PepsiCo noted as much in its appeal brief, saying Rise Brewing had "expressly relied on the 'crowded field' doctrine, which recognizes that where multiple companies use a common term in a particular category, consumers will be 'able to distinguish between different marks based on small differences in the marks' and will not be confused unless the overall commercial impression, as encountered by consumers in the marketplace, is essentially identical."Īs to the strength of the mark, Leval noted that Judge Schofield gave "huge importance to the fact that the coffee drink had spent $17 million on publicity." Now you’re saying there’s no room for another, only you can have it.” "And you eventually prevailed by changing it from Rise Coffee to Rise Brewing on the argument there was room for one more. “When you first applied for trademark, you were rejected on the grounds that were already a number of Rise, especially with respect with coffee," Leval said. Judge Leval appeared vexed in particular that Rise would claim infringement despite having entered the market “with open eyes,” knowing that the coffee and beverage field was filled with other “Rise”-branded drinks. “This seems to me to be a very weak mark, as a matter of law," he continued. Rise Brewing should have anticipated such consumer confusion, Leval chided, because that is a “risk that one takes on when you choose a weak mark.” Circuit Judge Pierre Leval, a Clinton appointee who in 1990 penned an influential analysis on the transformative-use doctrine for Harvard Law Review titled “Toward a Fair Use Standard.” The argument made little impression, however, on U.S. Paul Tanck, an attorney for the coffee company with the firm Alston & Bird, urged the Second Circuit to affirm, telling the court Wednesday that “there was actual confusion” among shoppers who saw the two Rise-branded drinks near each other on store shelves where coffee drinks, energy drinks and coffee-flavored energy drinks commingled. District Judge Lorna Schofield warned specifically that Rise Brewing’s business could face an "existential threat" from Mountain Dew's product. PepsiCo dropped the word "Rise" from its Mtn Dew Rise Energy product roughly two weeks after a New York federal judge ruled in November that drink was likely to confuse customers when placed on the same store shelves as wares from the canned coffee company Rise Brewing. Mtn Dew Rise Energy is available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $2.59 per can.MANHATTAN (CN) - The Second Circuit looked ready Wednesday to lift the injunction that forced parent company PepsiCo to rename its new Mountain Dew energy drink last year. I’m excited about the opportunity to bring that to life through this partnership with PepsiCo.” The ability to rise and find motivation to do more and be more every single morning is powerful. “When I first learned about the message behind the drink - the fact that every day is a chance to rise for all of us - that really resonated with me. “It's important to me that I believe in the brands and products where I invest my time,” Mr. James, which will eventually span to more categories, including snacks, PepsiCo said. The debut of Mtn Dew Rise Energy kicks off PepsiCo’s multiyear partnership with Mr. He not only continues to excel on and off the court but has dedicated his life to help others rise as well." "LeBron is the epitome of motivation and has achieved legendary status by seizing every morning. "As energy beverages evolve to provide even more functional benefits, we're excited to introduce the new Mtn Dew Rise Energy for those looking for a morning boost with enhanced mental clarity and immune support that helps you conquer the morning to conquer the day," said Fabiola Torres, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of the energy category for PepsiCo. The example in our introduction is missing a subject: was leaking profusely. (A main clause is also known as an independent clause.) But a sentence fragment is a missing one of these elements: it doesn’t have a subject or a verb, or it is a clause that doesn’t express a complete thought on its own. In English, a complete sentence has a main clause with a subject and verb. Even sentence fragments.Ī sentence fragment is a phrase or clause written as a sentence but lacking an element, as a subject or verb, that would enable it to function as an independent sentence in normative written English. Yep, there’s a time and place for everything. We will also teach when you may actually want to use them to make your writing shine. Here’s where comes in! We will teach you about different types of sentence fragments and how to transform them into functioning, complete sentences. Their use can make writing seem choppy and disorganized, and they can easily sneak into our writing without us even noticing. Readers are left confused-or worse yet, annoyed because they can’t decipher the fragment’s meaning.Īs you can see, sentence fragments are chunks of sentences that can’t stand alone. This is often what happens when a reader comes across a sentence fragment like our example above. And Beth out. What was leaking profusely? The kitchen sink? The hot air balloon? The baby’s diaper? The informants secretly embedded in the organizationĪre you perplexed-or maybe even a little bit curious-about the rest of the story and the missing words? (OK, maybe not in the case of the diaper.) You gotta have a subject andĪ verb, put 'em together, slap on a period, you've got a sentence. You're building sentences you have to make sure that what you've got is a subject and a predicate. Of the snowstorm, comma, we stayed home from school, period. Of the snowstorm, period, that wouldn't be a sentence. And if it were just we, period, that also wouldn't be a sentence. Home from school, period, that wouldn't be a sentence. So we've got this sentence here, this independent clause, right. Something could happen, but we don't know what that is, so, because of the snowstorm, Have, doesn't really have a subject or a verb. What we call, not even a, I mean it's not even aĭependent clause, right? It, this thing doesn't Why not? - Well youĭon't tell what happened because of that snowstorm. All right, what aboutīecause of the snowstorm? Is that a sentence, Beth? - Nope. Then you've got the part that finishes the thought, Got a part that names, that's your subject, and Or something performed by that noun our pronoun. Have to have something happen to that noun or pronoun, So you need to have a thing, like a noun, or a pronoun, and then you Order to be a sentence, you need to have both a Right, we're telling about something but we don't know what. To be a sentence either, that's also a fragment. Similarly, if we just had this predicate, and we just said it began ten years ago, oh, that's not enough Here, the whole story, and now we've given it a predicate. All right, so, the whole story began 10 years ago. Would call a predicate, in other words, so we're giving a subject, but we're not telling what Is the whole story missing? - Well we've got a subject but we don't have what we That cannot stand on its own, but nevertheless, incorrectlyĮnds with a period. The way I would put it, is that a fragment is a piece of a sentence So sentence fragments don't tell the whole story. Or it might include who but doesn't tell what happens. Maybe what happens, but doesn't include who, A sentence fragment is whenĪ student writes a sentence and they think it's a sentence, but it's one that tells So today weĪre going to talk about sentence fragments, andīeth you cover these in classes that you teach.
